~ Logic

Some simple logic...

Our surroundings can influence us. Affecting cures in a negative learning space can make a wonderful difference. A classroom that is psychologically comfortable can assist in better learning.

...and here are some logical, and helpful public building use tips:
  • Last one to leave the building? Working during a weekend? When leaving, you of course, lock any doors you've accessed. Make to to pull-to or push to test and be sure the door has truly shut. Some weather changes can cause some doors to not latch up tight. The push-pull test is a good habit to get into.
  • Masking tape will ruin painted surfaces and is hard on carpets. A product called "painter's tape" comes in many fun colors and seems to work best. Some buildings have a budget for things like this...be sure to ask before running out and spending your own money. It's always a good idea to check with your administrator and custodians before using something on the walls or carpeting.
  • Cloth furniture (sofas..) can harbor head lice, dust mites, etc. Other considerations include the cleaning and moving. Your custodian should not be expected to spend time and resources in cleaning, shampooing and moving these things as when summer cleaning takes place. Almost all classroom furniture gets moved for the carpet shampooing process. Logical...yes?
  • Placing computer monitors with the screens facing away from a light source such as a window makes it easier to see.
  • Take care in choosing a classroom pet. Many children have allergies and breathing problems and fur, dander, ammonia from dirty cages, and dust from hay and other feed can cause health problems and in some life threatening reactions. Some reptile pets can harbor salmonella.
  • Make sure arrangements are made for the care and feeding of your classroom pet for weekends, vacations and for when you might have sick days.
  • Keep cages very clean...if you skip a cleaning and think it's not a problem it could be that your nose has become used to the smell, but in reality someone coming into your room will certainly smell something! The ammonia in the urine can cause serious breathing problems for your students and can certainly cause your pet to suffer too.

Have any logic tips to share?
