Fun Ideas for decorating your classroom!
Seasonal Valances -
Find fun fabrics (4 different) depicting Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer and make valances. These are cute! As each season changes you change the valance over your door or other small window. If you don't have a suitable window you could make a mock bulletin board window. This idea from Lisa, Sunnyland Elementary, WA!
Wall organizers -
Old jeans that have seen the last round-up: Cut these out including both sides and thumb tack them to a suitable surface. Arrange them in their jean's backside configuration for a cute effect. Now you can use these handy pockets to store things like rulers. Smaller pockets from kid's size jeans could hold shorter objects like pencils, markers and pens. This idea from Suz F., Birchwood Elementary, WA!

Bathroom Passes -
A discarded isp CD with a loop of yarn through it. Mark your room number or name on it in permanent marker and it can make a fairly good bathroom pass.
A high school teacher uses a Barbie doll for the bathroom pass. Most boys in that classroom probably stay at their desks for the duration!
Fountains -
For many hundreds of years, adherents of feng shui have relied on the harmonious sound of trickling water to eradicate negative energy. In modern times, we have the ability to build and obtain garden fountains without digging or putting in any plumbing. A very nice one can be slightly more expensive than your other options. However, very few other fixtures can offer the emotional, spiritual, and feng shui benefits of a flowing water fountain, and modern production methods have made them slightly easier to manufacture. For full feng shui benefits, put your fountain in the North sector of the room, which is the direction of water. |
Hello!
I'm a teacher of the deaf in Iowa. I have two tips for the ideas page:
If you have carpet in your classroom, you can use velcro
-the long strands of it- instead of masking tape for floor dividing activities.
Moving the teacher desk so that it faces the door gives
you a feeling of more authority as well as you are facing
the door so you can welcome people/students as they
come in while you are working.
These ideas from-Lena F.
